I’m not sure if it’s a national phenomenon or if we just happen to be lucky to live in a very gluten-free-friendly state, but MANY restaurants in Colorado now cater to gluten-free customers.

We have eaten at all of the restaurants listed in this article and have had no incidents. Some of these restaurants have dedicated gluten-free menus; others have knowledgeable staff that can help you make gluten-free selections. Before trying a new place, we often call ahead and ask to speak to a manager about their menu and gluten-free (dairy-free for my daughter) options. Better to be safe than sorry!

• Abrusci’s – Wheat Ridge
  Abrusci’s has an extensive gluten-free menu with pasta, pizza, bread, and more. Many of their offerings come from Sweet Escape Pastries.
• Bloom – Broomfield, at the Flatirons Mall
  This upscale restaurant serves new American cuisine, and their staff is knowledgeable about ingredients and preparation. Their Wine Flights are fun to try with dinner.
• Bonefish Grill – several locations, nationwide
  This popular chain has a great gluten-free menu. We love the Mussels Josephine, and my husband loves their lime-tomato-garlic sauce served on just about anything.
• Casa Alvarez – Boulder
  This is a casual Mexican restaurant with a gluten-free menu. They catered a Mexican Fiesta lunch for my daughter’s first grade class upon completion of their social studies unit on Mexico. She was thrilled to be able to eat everything that was served.
